Frequently Asked Questions

What is SEBI's Social Stock Exchange (SSE)?

SEBI’s Social Stock Exchange is a regulated platform that helps nonprofits and for profit social enterprises raise funds for social impact in a transparent way. It works like a stock exchange, but for organizations with a clear social purpose.

The SSE allows retail investors to invest in securities issued by non profits through approved routes such as Zero Coupon Zero Principal instruments.

Zero Coupon Zero Principal instruments are donation like securities used to raise funds for listed social enterprises and nonprofits on the SSE. They do not pay interest and do not return the principal, so the money is used for the social purpose rather than as a financial investment.

NPOs must meet SEBI’s registration and disclosure requirements and show that they are working toward a defined social purpose. Once verified, they can list on the SSE and, if they choose, raise funds through approved instruments while continuing to report on their social impact.
The SSE Portal supports structured fundraising, disclosure, and reporting so organizations can maintain transparency around fund use and social outcomes. It also creates a regulated process for documentation and compliance, which helps both the organization and the funder track whether the money is being used as intended.

Seva Nivesh’s SSE portal serves two key functions: it helps investors discover NPOs listed on BSE and NSE, and it gives nonprofits a platform to present their projects to potential funders. NPOs can upload detailed project information and promotional materials to explain their listed projects, while investors can set cause preferences to filter and find relevant listings.
